Now&Next: Construction Underway On Vanderbilt’s 600+ Bed Graduate Village Project.

Construction is underway at Vanderbilt’s New Graduate and Professional Student Housing development. According to a recent Vanderbilt press release, construction was originally scheduled to begin in 2020 but delayed due to Covid-19.  The building is expected to receive students in the 2023-24 academic year.

Made possible by a Public Private Partnership, the project will feature approximately 615 beds and offer a mix of apartment-styled unit types.  The development’s program is tailored specifically to Vanderbilt graduate and professional students.

Vanderbilt’s Graduate Village joins a host of developments both planned and under construction. The map above shows a sample of on-going and planned developments reshaping the area adjacent to the University.  Here’s the quick rundown:

The development primarily consists of two main towers situated over commercial use space and parking.  The North tower is closest to the proposed alley; the South Tower is closest to Broadway.The Main resident entry is located on 20th Avenue South. The entrance will welcome students through a large raised public plaza which will include parking spaces below.  The North tower activates 20th Ave South with a proposed coffee shop and lobby entrance.

The ground floor of the North tower lobby includes the main programmatic spaces for the Graduate & Professional village.  Some of those uses include:

  • Conference Rooms
  • Collaboration Spaces
  • Fitness Center
  •  Leasing Office
  • Package/ Mail Room

The ground floor of the South tower consists of retail space along Broadway.  The plans included in the recent permit submission proposes a grocery store.  The South tower also includes a private terrace with grilling areas and student lounge.
