1010 Church Street will soon set the record as the tallest building in Tennessee. The current home of the Downtown Nashville YMCA is set to get a 60 Story, 750 Feet addition. Once complete the tower will become home to new apartments, condos, and a new YMCA addition as well. The new tower is situated at the corner of Church Street & YMCA Way.
A request for concept review was submitted in December for the proposed 60-story tower. The site required modifications to the street character requirements, below-grade parking, and encroachment of the build-to zone. Staff recommended approval of the modifications with further coordination with TDOT and the DTC. Here’s the quick rundown:
1010 Church Street
- What’s Now: YMCA
- What’s Next: Mixed -Use Development Addition
- Developer: YMCA – Giarratana, LLC
- Architect: Goettsch Partners
- Civil: Barge Design Solutions
- Landscape: HDLA
The proposed plan will maintain the newer wing of the YMCA facility, while the older wing will be demolished to make way for the new tower and YMCA addition. That can be seen in the image above. According to the YMCA, they plan to keep the existing wing open during construction.
The entrance into the new tower is proposed off of Church Street and will have access through a covered entry way. The leasing office as well as the lobbies for both the apartments & condos are also facing Church Street. That can be seen in the images below. 1010 Church street will sit a little under 2 feet away from Platform North, the new roadway used to access the Amazon towers at a new signalized intersection. Instead the driveway will sit roughly 80 feet from the new intersection and will not connect to Platform North.
Designed by Goettsch Partners, the building façade will feature a glass bifold design similar to the one22one development on Broadway. However, the top of the building transitions to more of a modern clerestory design. Although 1010 Church Street will join a host of new skyscrapers (Buildings at least 493 feet per B1M) it will become the pinnacle of Nashville’s skyline.
